Privacy Policy
MagicBooks (“we”, “us”) helps you learn a language by reading real books rewritten to your level. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who processes it, and what choices you have.
1. Who we are
Controller: ED AI LTD, a company registered in England and Wales. Contact: hello@edai.ltd. Website: magicbooks.edai.uk.com.
2. What we do not do
MagicBooks contains no advertising, no advertising or attribution SDK, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not access the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), so the app never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not build advertising profiles.
3. Data we collect
- Account: your Sign in with Apple identifier, the email address Apple shares with us (which may be a private relay address), and a display name. Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in method — we never see or store a password.
- Learning profile: the language you speak and the one you're learning, your level, your stated goal, your saved words and how well you know them, reading progress, and streaks.
- Content interactions: which books and chapters you open, the adapted text generated for you, words you tap, and the text or speech you send to the tutor.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active subscription. Apple processes all payments — we never receive or store your card details.
- Product analytics: in-app events such as screens viewed and features used, so we can see where the app is confusing.
- Diagnostics: basic device and app logs needed to diagnose crashes.
4. How we use it
- Rewrite chapters to your level and generate word explanations.
- Run the voice and text tutor.
- Schedule vocabulary to reappear before you are likely to forget it.
- Track your free daily chapter allowance and subscription access.
- Fix bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the product.
- Meet our legal obligations and App Store requirements, including account deletion.
5. Who else processes your data
We use a small number of third-party providers to run the service. They act on our instructions and process your data only to provide their service to us — never for their own purposes. By category:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase, and push notifications.
- Hosting and database — where your account, saved words, reading progress and book text are stored.
- Subscription management — checks whether your subscription is active. This provider receives Apple's receipts; it is not a payment processor and never sees your card details.
- AI model providers — rewrite chapters to your level, generate word explanations, run the text and voice tutor, and screen free-text input for safety. The app holds no AI provider keys; every AI request is made server-side.
- Speech providers — pronunciation and read-aloud audio.
- Product analytics — in-app usage events, so we can see where the app is confusing. This is a first-party analytics provider: no advertising network, no attribution SDK, and no cross-app tracking.
We do not use advertising or data-broker services of any kind. If you would like the current list of the specific providers we use, email hello@edai.ltd and we will send it.
6. Retention
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account. That deletes your account and its associated data server-side. We may retain limited records where the law requires it, and anonymised or aggregated data that cannot identify you.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, or the CCPA — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or object to certain processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Email hello@edai.ltd and we will respond within the period the law allows. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
MagicBooks is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country if that age is higher. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Your data may be processed in the United Kingdom, the EEA, the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Where data leaves the UK or EEA we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, give additional notice in the app.
